What is a Goldendoodle?

Updated: May 15, 2022

A goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Our golden retriever Dory is the mother to "F1" goldendoodles. An "F1" goldendoodle is a first generation goldendoodle. They are a product of a purebred golden retriever and a purebred poodle. These are popular pets because they can combine many of the desirable personality traits of a golden retriever with the desirable hypoallergenic coat of a poodle. These goldendoodles benefit from hybrid vigor. Hybrid vigor is when the crossbreed is healthier than the breeds of both parents because they don't inherit genetic deficiencies that are typical of their parents. The coats of these goldendoodles can vary even within the same litter. Typically their coats will be either shaggy or curly, rarely flat. Coloring can range from apricot, to white, and even black. This will depend on the coats of the parents. We expect our goldendoodles to be mostly apricot.
